Apply for a CIBC Smart Account

To qualify, open a CIBC Smart Account and provide your email address. Within 3 months of opening the account, set up and complete on a recurring basis 1 eligible direct deposit OR 2 different eligible pre-authorized debits (each, a “Qualifying Action”). The monthly fee will be rebated for the month in which the account is opened and for the next 3 months.

If at least 1 Qualifying Action is completed each month for the subsequent 9 months following the first 3 months after the account was opened, the monthly account fee will be rebated for each month in which the Qualifying Action occurs. The monthly account fee will apply for each month where no Qualifying Action occurs and at the end of the offer period without further notice. 1 Value of over $500 is as of July 1, 2021 and assumes you qualify for the cash back reward, combined with the maximum fee rebate available on the CIBC Smart Account as follows:

i) $203.40 ($16.95 per month for unlimited transactions) for completing required conditions for the 12-month fee rebate offer when you open a CIBC Smart Account as your first CIBC chequing account or by maintaining account balance requirements to receive a monthly account fee rebate;

ii) $300 offer for opening your first CIBC chequing account and within 2 months of opening the account, completing 2 of the following 3 activities: (i) at least 1 recurring direct deposit; (ii) at least 2 different recurring pre-authorized debits; (iii) at least 2 online bill payments of at least $50 each. The direct deposit and the pre-authorized debits must remain in effect for at least 2 consecutive months.

3 A transaction includes cheques, withdrawals, transfers, pre-authorized payments, bill payments (including CIBC Credit Cards and CIBC Personal Lines of Credit) and debit purchases. For CIBC eAdvantage Savings Accounts, a transaction does not include transfers to your other CIBC bank account(s) using the transfer function on CIBC Online Banking, CIBC Mobile Banking, CIBC Telephone Banking and at CIBC ATMs. For all accounts, transfers to CIBC-branded loans (excluding CIBC Personal Lines of Credit), mortgages and investments (registered and non-registered) are free. “CIBC-branded” means any brand that has CIBC in its name and is offered by CIBC or its Canadian affiliates (and does not include CIBC Bank USA). Other fees (in addition to any transaction fee) include: withdrawals from non-CIBC bank machines (rebated for CIBC Smart Plus Accounts except the 2.5% administration fee on the converted amount of foreign currency ATM withdrawals), wire payments, e-Transfer transactions (the e-Transfer fee is waived for CIBC Smart Accounts, CIBC Smart Plus Accounts and for clients who are enrolled in CIBC Advantage for Youth, CIBC Smart for Students, CIBC Smart for Seniors (on the CIBC Smart Account) and CIBC Advantage for Students (on the CIBC Everyday Chequing Account) and transactions in foreign currency (including cheques written in currencies other than the account currency).

4 Any free or unused transactions cannot be carried forward for use in subsequent months.

5 The additional $1.50 service fee is waived for sending e-Transfer transactions. Each e-Transfer transaction you send counts as a transaction for calculating your monthly fee. 6 CIBC will rebate one non-CIBC ABM withdrawal fee charge; charges from the other financial institution may apply. Fees charged by other financial institutions or third parties for using their ATMs, and the 2.5% administration fee on the converted amount for foreign currency ATM withdrawals are not included in this feature and will be charged to your account. ATM withdrawal amounts may be limited to a maximum dollar withdrawal amount.

7 Available to clients who have: 

  • Non-registered accounts, except for the CIBC Bank USA Smart Account and CIBC Personal Lines of Credit (PLC) accounts; 
  • Eligible accounts that are in good standing; and
  • A valid mobile number on file with those accounts

8 CIBC foreign exchange rates apply. A CIBC Global Money Transfer and a Foreign Exchange transaction counts towards your allowable transaction limit. Bank account transaction fees may apply. Must have a CIBC chequing account, savings account, eligible credit card or personal line of credit account to send a CIBC Global Money Transfer. Most transfers are completed within 1 to 3 business days. Only primary credit card cardholders can use their eligible credit card account to pay for the CIBC Global Money Transfer service.
